London Road, Derby is an N Gauge layout based on the Derby RTC. It’s built to the Astolat MRC modular specification on base boards measuring 900x600mm, the layout size is 2700x600mm and can operate in standalone mode as an end to end layout or part of a larger modular layout with the front 3 lines given up to the modular layout.
Construction of the layout started in late 2022 when the base boards arrived but work has been slow – too much initial procrastination, work, life etc getting in the way.
It’s a marathon, not a sprint!

The first train ran on the first board on Feb 4, 2024.
Work then accelerated to get the remaining boards working with all 3 boards pretty much completed by June 2025 in time for the Astolat MRC 2025 Exhibition.
You’ve seen Deadmans Lane – right?
It would be remiss of us not to mention the fabulous Deadman’s Lane by Mick Bryant in OO. We first saw DML at Warley in 2022 and it became our layout crush. We’d been on the hunt to find a location to model and it seemed perfect to use to put our own spin on it.
We have our own connection with Derby, my Grandfather was the onsite dentist at the Stanton Steel works and my uncle still lives there.
