Happy 4th Birthday Kernow, Guildford

Kernow Guildford

Kernow celebrates it’s 4th anniversary of opening in Guildford today with an open day – a handful of manufacturers were present – I had a good chat with them, didn’t get any product announcements though.

UPDATE:

Kernow announced an exclusive 37 (with Bachmann) in BR Railfreight Grey – see announcement – lifting straight from that:

The KMRC Exclusive class 37 is available in three formats, with standard DCC Ready versions, £249.95 with a Plux22 DCC decoder (The recommended decoder is Bachmann item No. 36-570). SOUND FITTED models, £349.95, are pre-fitted with a Zimo MS450P22 DCC Decoder, whilst the SOUND FITTED DELUXE format, £379.95, feature the new motorised fan system. In addition, the SOUND FITTED DELUXE specification includes windscreen glazing that has been treated with a specialist technique to replicate the tinting seen on the prototype.

The Bachman 37 always seemed a little steep on the ££ front, especially when you’ve got the likes of Accurascale to contend with (assuming you can actually get hold of one!)

At least now there’s pretty much a Class 37 to suit everyones budget:

  • Hornby Railroad @ £96.99 [link]
  • Accurascale Class 37 £169.99 – £259.99
  • Bachman Class 37 £249.99 – £379.95

Hornby

Hornby had their 9F on the Kernow layout at the front of the store with their HM7000 onboard – the lad has a few OO locomotives but we’re an Android household so the HM7000 is still off limits to us at the moment until they release an Android version.

We chatted about it and myriad of devices they have to support – cross platform application development is hard enough but coupled with hardware then it’s a mine field – join that with App store approval processes etc.

I did ask the question though, when will we be seeing the Android version and was told “we saw it last week, it should be out in a couple of weeks” – I did check if thats real calendar weeks and assured it was, we shall wait and see!

Rapido Trains

Rapido were on hand with a sample of their models – I didn’t get a photo but the OO GWR B-set coaches looked lovely – some lovely detailing coming with a selection of windows as well so you’ll be able to half open windows in carriages. Also, the simplicity of the removal roof with light strip (and stay alive) is very neat.

Bachmann

A small selection of the Bachmann/Farrish range on show, the Farrish Class 450 did look nice in N gauge and the Class 70 as well.
