Club Modular Out and About

Astolat MRC Spring Open Day 2025

It’s rather embarrassing to find that we’ve not posted anything here since April 2024 – that’s a year ago! How fast does time fly!

Needless to say, we’ve been busy behind the scenes beavering away on our respective layouts!

On Saturday we attended our club open day at Dapdune Wharf, Guildford. This time, with both us showing layouts which was a first!

The lad took his new layout One Tree Lane for it’s first outing public outing. A modern image micro layout with just 730mm of operating space packs a lot in! Very proud to see him entertaining folks and having conversations with folks about everything he’s done.

I was there as part of our club modular layout with London Road, Derby – in ‘modular’ mode connected on both sides to other members modular layouts. In modular mode, we give up the front 3 running lines for through trains controlled by a designated member. With London Road, I can isolate the running lines from the rest of the layout leaving that operational.

The layout is still very much in progress – with only the left most board fully operational and the front lines operational on boards 2 and 3.

It was well received and what made it more interesting was that I could be standing in front of the layout and talking to people as opposed to be standing behind the layout – and still had trains moving all the time controlled by iTrain – if not, very simplistic being limited to board 1.

Wiring progress will continue, next up will be our exhibition at Guildford Spectrum on 29th June and by then I hope to have all the track operational!
